The Show

Whistling Away the Dark: The Songbook of Julie Andrews is a theatrical celebration of one of Broadway and Hollywood’s most beloved performers. Through songs by Rodgers and Hammerstein, Lerner and Loewe, the Sherman Brothers, Henry Mancini, Noël Coward, Arthur Schwartz, and more, Shana Farr traces Andrews’s extraordinary journey from young English prodigy to international icon.

With soaring vocals, warmth, humor, and personal storytelling, Shana brings her own distinctive interpretations to songs synonymous with Andrews, alongside beautiful, lesser-known gems. The result is an uplifting and deeply personal tribute to Julie Andrews’s enduring influence on Broadway, Hollywood, and generations of audiences.

The program has played sold-out engagements at Feinstein’s at the Regency, 54 Below, The Players, and the Metropolitan Room in New York; Crazy Coqs and The Pheasantry in London; and venues throughout the United States. Its London engagements received two five-star reviews.

Fred Barton’s lush arrangements complement Shana’s voice and give the program a full, elegant sound.

Farr can be torchy, or buoyant, and ranges from operetta to the bouncy flavour of the Twenties.
